- Object history
- It is unknown who carved this figurehead but, when the ship was broken up in 1908, the figurehead was mounted at the south entrance of Devonport Dockyard where Douglas Owen recorded that it was a 'Bust; head laurel crowned; anybody's face with the Wellington nose. Military coat with aiguillettes'. He remains in Devonport as described except that he has now been moved indoors.
- Vessel history
- A 3rd rate, 74 gun ship launched in 1816 at Deptford. Originally named 'Hero' but renamed in the year of her launch. She was used as a training ship, HMS 'Akbar', from 1862 until sold in 1908.
