Object history
At the subsequent sale of materials from the wreck, this figurehead was purchased by Thomas Henderson, of Spiggie, grandfather of the donor for 1/-. This is most likely a portrait carving and may well be a likeness of the person after whom the ship was named. The figurehead was long displayed outside at Spiggie and was badly weathered.
Vessel history
This figurehead came from the brig 'Elwine' of Stettin, which was wrecked off Clukkistack, near Spiggie on 16th November 1877 with the loss of all her crew.
