Wooden screw sloop, launched at Portsmouth in 1860. While stationed in China in 1868 under the overall command of Admiral Sir Henry Keppel, her crew formed part of a landing party sent to occupy Yangzhou after a dispute with the Chinese authorities, following an attack on British missionaries. She was deployed on a further punitive expedition in China the following year. In July 1871 with Pluto, she was involved in operations against pirate strongholds in the Selangor River, Malaysia.
